What is JustWalk ?
Just Walk is a fundraising walk with a difference. Not only can you choose your own charity to fundraise for, but you can also challenge yourself with a 10km walk, a circular 20km, a NEW 40km route or the big 60km walk in outstanding British countryside. The event is over one day (and maybe into the night for you 60km folks) on Saturday 9th May 2009. Route details will be included in your event pack.
Where is Just
Walk ?
The walk will be based on the South Downs in West Sussex. Full details will
be sent with your event pack.
Who can take part in Just
Walk ?
The walk is open to anyone of any ability. As long as you’re up for
the charity challenge and willing to raise your target sponsorship, then
this is for you. Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied at all times
by a responsible adult.
How do I go about choosing a charity and raising funds for them?
Choose a charity that you care about; a cause that is close to you. There
are many, many charities to choose from and all of them could do great things
with the money you raise. Ask around if you are unsure, or go to our charities
page for a few recommendations. Then, get in touch with your chosen charity
and ask for a fundraising pack which will include sponsor forms. Send all
of the money you have raised to the charity direct.
How much do I need to raise?
That’s up to you. That’s the great thing!
As you will be paying all the costs, every penny you fundraise goes to your
charity . Speak to your charity and ask them about recommended targets if
you are unsure how much you should aim to raise. On your event pack we will
ask you to set yourself a personal target.
How does the money work?
One very special thing about Just
Walk is that all of the money you raise
will go to your charity. You will pay a £65 for the big 60km, £55 for the 40km, £45 for the 20km and £15 for the 10km walk. Children under 18 are welcome to join the 20km walk as long as they are with a parent or guardian, their fee is £10 and free for under 12s on the 10km route . This
will cover ALL the event costs. Every penny you raise will go to your charity (even more if you add Gift Aid, just ask your charity about it).
What if I am a group of 10 or more?
If there is 10 or more of you please contact Gemma Phillips.
Will I be supported?
Before Just Walk,
the event organisers, Across the
Divide Expeditions, will give you loads of information and training
support. We will provide you with all the information you need about the
event and we are always just a phone call away. During the event we will
provide all meals, medical support, walking guides and full event facilities,
and you will receive a free (and exclusive) event t-shirt.
You will be supported every step of the way. Across the Divide has over 10 years’ experience in organising charity challenge events in almost every corner of the world and has helped to raise £24 million. We guarantee that you won’t be alone.
What kit do I need?
Once you have registered you will receive a full information pack containing
a full kit list.
What time will the event start?
The walk will start at 9.00am on Saturday 9th May. You will need to sign
in on the day between 6.30am
and 8.30am.
Please note, however, that timings are subject to change.
What is the walk like?
Just stunning! We have chosen this area for its outstanding natural
beauty and spectacular views. The walk is along footpaths, tracks and lanes
avoiding the worst of the mud and nettles and is somewhat undulating. Rest
stations will be positioned at regular intervals along the route, allowing
access to power stations, toilet facilities, marshals and medical support.
Will there be any food or refreshments provided?
All your meals will be provided. Tea and coffee will be freely available at
the start and at some rest stations, as well as plenty of water and snacks
along the walk.
How do I get to the start and where do I leave my car?
The venue details and directions will be provided in your event pack. There
will be ample secure parking for all, but to help make the event more sustainable
we recommend you look into public transport options and car sharing.
Can I bring my dog?
Due to concerns from local farmers and with such large numbers involved
we strongly recommend you do not bring your dog along - sorry. Guide and working dogs for the deaf are welcome.
When should I join up?
Participants enter on a first come first served basis. Although there is
no cut off date, for health and safety reasons entries will close once the
event limit is reached.
What if the weather is bad on the day?
We cannot guarantee good weather. Only in the event of very severe weather
conditions will this event be cancelled. We recommend that you look at the
weather forecast in the days prior to the event and wear suitable clothing.
A suggested kit-list will be included in your event pack.
